 Volunteering FAQs

  1. Volunteering at HV is a partnership that is based on respect, clear communication and flexibility.Where can I volunteer at HV?

You can volunteer in activities and projects across skills-based, social support and awareness-raising areas. Whether you have any specific skills, for example, in IT, communication, story-writing, film production; or are interested in socialising one-on-one with a person with HD, visiting someone in residential care or helping with the HD Peer Support Groups; or would like to raise awareness through community education or fun runs – we would love to hear from you!

  2. What skills and experience do I needed to volunteer?

Specific experience and skills are helpful but not mandatory for most of the volunteering opportunities at HV.  Sometimes all that is needed is a positive attitude, open mind and interest in making a difference.

  3. Will I be supported in my role?

Yes, from the point you sign up to volunteer with HV, throughout the duration of your engagement you will be supported by an experienced team of staff and other volunteers. You will participate in an orientation session and have an ongoing access to internal and external training opportunities.

  4. How much time do I need to give?

That will depend on the activity/project that you decide to volunteer for. However, once you make a commitment, we would hope you could see it through. We understand that sometimes issues do arise and if these circumstances we will strive to find a mutually agreeable solution.
