Client Support Services Update
The full rollout of the National Disability Insurance Scheme and potential impacts
As you may be aware, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), is a new Australia wide approach to caring and providing support for people with a disability. This long and anticipated introduction to the scheme is now being rolled out and expected to be in full transition across Australia by July 2019. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) may have been in contact with you as you may be eligible to become a client of NDIS and be allocated funding for supports in relation to your Huntington’s disease (i.e. personal care, domestic support, transport, aids and equipment, or respite).
Whilst the roll out of NDIS provides an exciting opportunity for you and your family, the transition can also be a daunting process. In light of this, Huntington’s Victoria is committed to assisting you through this transition and help ease any anxieties or concerns you may have during this time of change.
With a new federal disability system, this also means changes to the way you access disability services and supports. Access to Huntington’s Victoria services will remain the same for those who are not clients of the NDIS. If you have transitioned or will be transitioning in the near future then there will be some changes that you will need to be aware of.
If you are a current recipient of HV’s Case Management and/or ISP Facilitation services, understanding the transition to NDIS is particularly important. These services will now be accessible to you as part of your NDIS plan by:
- Requesting to your NDIA planner that HV be involved in the planning stage
- Request for Support Coordination and/or Plan management as part of your plan. This would mean that HV will be able to assist you with your transition to NDIS, help you access services and implement your plan as well as monitor your NDIS funding on your behalf.
It is important that the above process occurs as without it, HV will not be able to continue providing the supports that you were receiving. If you find yourself in a position that HV is no longer involved in your care, but would like our involvement please give us a call.
As a specialist service for individuals and families impacted by Huntington’s disease, Huntington’s Victoria understands your circumstances and the complex needs of the HD community. Huntington’s Victoria has been a key provider for NDIS from the very start and has an understanding of how the system works to best meet your needs. If you would like to discuss your current situation and would like Huntington’s Victoria to assist you with the transition to NDIS, please give us a call on 03 9818 6333.Back
