Community Health Services

We recommend as the first step to always make contact with your GP.

Your local community health centre will be able to provide you with some advice on where to find local services. Some centres can also provide assistance via Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Speech Pathologists.

Your local hospital is also a good starting point if you need immediate attention for a specific health problem. 

Your local Disability Services are also an excellent resource. They can help you in locating other relevant services and to also link you up with specific funding and care options.  All of these services can be found in your local telephone book.

» Crisis phone services
Occasionally families may need support out of hours. Crisis phone lines provide assistance 24 hours a day.

» Victorian Patient Transport Assistance Scheme (VPTAS)
Those living in remote Victoria will often have to travel to Melbourne to see one of the HD specialists which can be quite costly. VPTAS is available to reimburse any costs associated with travelling to a HD clinic or other specialist appointments.
